Fondation Rémy Cointreau – “Par la Main” PODCAST
This podcast, which bears witness to the support provided by the Rémy Cointreau Foundation, offers an immersion into the heart of the art of craftsmanship.
At the end of a Parisian cul-de-sac, in a bric-a-brac workshop, William Amor transforms what we no longer look at. Plastic bags, fragments, scraps.
Everything our daily lives produce, consume and then discard. Here, nothing is waste.
Since 2000, William Amor has been developing a singular body of work at the crossroads of art, craft and commitment. He defines himself as a “ennobler of neglected matter”.
His works – which he calls Les Créations Messagères – are born of a seemingly simple gesture: collect, observe, transform.
But behind this metamorphosis lies a philosophy. The philosophy of breaking with value judgments. To consider that what we call waste is first and foremost a material, a resource, a starting point. Inspired by nature and the living world, which he has observed since childhood, William Amor recreates flowers from plastic. Fragile, sensitive, almost unreal flowers.
Like a tribute to what living beings teach us: in nature, nothing disappears, everything is transformed.
His career path does not follow a straight line. Scientific studies, a stint in fashion, years of solitary experimentation… until that decisive moment when he decided to devote himself fully to this practice. Since then, he’s been developing his own techniques, borrowing from the arts and crafts, and building a language, a signature.
This episode is all about vision, transformation and commitment. It’s about the ability to bring out beauty where we can’t see it anymore. And a deep conviction: to create is to give meaning back to what surrounds us.
