Demna bids farewell to Balenciaga

On this Wednesday, July 9, 2025, emotions are running high at Balenciaga. At noon, Demna, artistic director since 2015, presents his last haute couture show for the house. Tomorrow, his successor, Pierpaolo Piccioli , takes over the reins of the studio, while the Georgian designer makes his debut at Gucci.

Rarely has a fashion house so celebrated the work of a departing artistic director. In addition to a testamentary collection, enriched by a surprise collaboration with Britney Spears, Balenciaga celebrated the decade with an exhibition open to the public. (…)

Balenciaga haute couture accessories

Finally, a rarity in haute couture, the looks are accompanied by numerous accessories. Among them are two fans recreated from the Duvelleroy archives – the most eccentric of couture accessories. Flower-shaped brooches are made by Maison Lemarié et William Amor using tissue paper. But that’s not all: to complete the circle, the designer who elevated streetwear imagined the first Balenciaga Couture sneaker. Although this model is standard, it is handcrafted using traditional shoemaking techniques. Finally, briefcases are revisited as sparkling jewelry boxes.
